Stallings Homes for Sale

In the early 1900s, a man named Matthew Thomas Stallings moved to Union County and purchased 200 acres of land straddling the border of Mecklenburg County. Stallings was a prominent merchant and farmer formerly from Harrisburg, so when he moved to the area of modern-day Stallings, he built a home and continued his business by opening a store near the Seaboard Railway track. Stallings’ long-term view was to establish a vital settlement in the region that encouraged enterprise and industry. In 1910, the railroad built a station next to the small but growing community. For several years, the Seaboard Railway brought passengers back and forth from Charlotte and other nearby towns and furnished the town with freight service. The railway service significantly helped the residents and merchants thrive, as it provided them with easy access to crucial supplies. However, the Seaboard Railway chose to halt its service to Stallings because the steam engines were unable to store enough steam to climb the steep hill into neighboring Matthews if it stopped in Stallings. The introduction of the automobile assembly line made it easier for people to own vehicles, which in turn led to the building of freeways and highways. It was during this period that a new four-lane highway reconnected Stallings, U.S. 74, built soon after the Great Depression.

In addition to this long, interesting history, Stallings offers much to prospective homebuyers. From thrilling theme parks to majestic mountain ranges, after you purchased a home in Stallings, you will quickly understand why nearby Charlotte, North Carolina, is the third fastest growing city in the United States.
