Stay up to date on the Huntersville market
Like many towns and cities in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area, the establishment, location, and general history of Huntersville are mostly related to cotton farming, cotton mills, brick manufacturing, and the railroad, which played a pivotal part in allowing business owners to ship their goods nationwide. Incorporated in 1873, the settlement was initially called “Craighead.” It was later renamed after Robert Hunter, one of the biggest landowners in the area. Hunter was a farmer and an important contributor to the community in his time. His farmhouse still stands as a historical landmark in Huntersville and is its oldest publicly owned site. When the railroad was constructed, business flourished. The cotton trade was so good for Huntersville that a cotton company called Virgin Manufacturing Company pushed for the development of a “mill town,’ which was a popular thing for cotton companies to do in those days. The Virgin Manufacturing Company suggested the town be established on the east side of the railroad line. Another industry that contributed much to Huntersville’s growth was brickyards which supplied bricks to construction sites all over the Charlotte metropolitan area. Today, Huntersville is still a fast-growing town that serves as a bedroom community for those working and studying in Charlotte.
