Ballantyne Homes for Sale

Ballantyne is a neighborhood located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The present-day land Ballantyne is built upon initially belonged to the Harris family, relatives of Cameron A. Morrison, a former North Carolina Governor who served in office from 1921 to 1925. Development of this land first began with Johnny Harris and his brother-in-law, Smoky Bissell, after establishing the Ballantyne Corporate Park in 1992. Even today, it is considered to be one of the most successful master-planned communities in United States history. The Ballantyne project broke another record when Harrison rezoned 2,000 acres, making it the most extensive rezoned area in the history of Mecklenburg County. Crescent Resources was another developer, purchasing 610 acres from the Harrison’s, which later became the site of the Ballantyne Country Club and sister development to the Harrison project. In 1995, Bissell purchased Johnny Harrison’s share of the company for $20 million and formed Ballantyne. In 2001, Bissell designed and built The Ballantyne Hotel.
